Daily Wow I’m Alive Minute
Once upon a time, all over the world life become unbearably dreary because of constant wars and things getting dirty because of pollution and everybody worrying about global warming, and people forgot how to enjoy life. One day a group of people found an old library with outrageous comic books about a boy called Calvin and his pet tiger named Hobbes. The boy was so bursting with happiness about being alive that the people decided to imitate him. The comic would come out every day so they invented a new holiiday called “wow I’m alive minute” that was to be celebrated every day so that people would never forget that no matter how dismal things seemed to be it is still possible to remember to enjoy life. Over the years it was celebrated all over the world.
People are free to choose whatever time of the day they would like to celebrate their “wow I’m alive” minute. At first, people began celebrating “Wow I’m alive minute” by imitating Calvin, but eventually people invented all kinds of activities. The main idea is to do the most outrageous thing you can to remind yourself how alive you are. Examples are doing a cartwheel, or jumping into the snow and making snow angels with just your t-shirt on and singing at the top of your lungs, or running around and giving everybody you see flowers. Pranks are also popular to help other people get into the act in case they forget. The point is to be good natured about them though.
Like all holidays, food and decorations are involved. For food people try to eat the most wonderful food they can think of like a sweet ripe persimmon or a chocolate milkshake or the biggest fattest dagwood sandwich they can. For decorations, it has become traditional to don the most outrageous hat you can think of, like court jester hats with bells, or giant hats with fruit all over them. Some people dress up as T-rex.
On fridays, people read their favorite story about whole towns that have forgotten to enjoy life. Examples are Salman Rushdie’s “Haroun and the sea of stories” and Thornton Wilder’s play, “our town”.
Now that we’ve been celebrating daily “Wow I’m Alive Minute” for many years, the world has been looking like a brighter place. People seem to be thankful that it was invented. Because it has changed peoples lives, some people feel it is a very religious holiday, but others feel free not to see it that way. We are all grateful to Calvin and his tiger, Hobbes.
